Evan Wichman is returning to New York City for the 2026-27 school year to begin a new chapter in his career. He will be teaching elementary general music in a D75 school in the NYC Department of Education.

Most recently, Evan taught IB MYP and DP Music at Kaohsiung American School. There, he led the after school orchestra and music directed the school's production of Frozen Jr. He previously taught 6-12 band and chorus at the American School of Brasilia. Before that, he taught IB DP Music and Theory of Knowledge at Beijing National Day School, and was the founding choir director at Maspeth High School in New York City. While in New York, he also served as the assistant conductor for Amor Artis, as well as a vocal adjudicator for NYSSMA.

Evan holds a B.M. in Music Education from Syracuse University, an M.M. in Choral Conducting from Emory University, and an M.Sci. in Education Futures from the University of Edinburgh. He was an active member of the Carnegie Hall Music Educators workshop from 2015-2022. Evan has been recognized with awards such a being named Academy for Teachers Fellow and Fulbright-Hays recipient. His research interests include the use of strengths-based positive psychology in the ensemble classroom as well as embracing neurodiversity in performance settings.
